In the latest edition of The Cosmopolitan Review writer Christian Davies discusses Polish Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski’s call to tear down Warsaw’s historic (Soviet-era) Palace of Culture. It seems a bit too Taliban-ish to us. What do you think?
After all, some love it and some don’t. And some just see it as a big canvas…
Thanks for the message Jamie. Your article is very interesting. I also had an opportunity to check out links to some of the other pieces you wrote – lots of great stuff. The Roman Polanski debate was especially good. Stay in touch and keep us updated on new articles – we’re on facebook, twitter and you can reach us at younxt@gmail.com
I think I’d like to see your sketches for that 🙂
By the way – other than the video we posted do you know of any interesting design/lighting projects that they have undertaken with the exterior of the building? I’m thinking something along the lines of what they have done with the Eiffel and CN towers.
I say give it a make over (both inside and outside) to make it feel and look more Polish. So maybe start replacing the Socialist statues with some eagles, regionals plaques, statues of heros of Poland etc.
My opinion, for what’s it’s worth: http://www.krakowpost.com/article/1761

Why not make this question into a design competition? Personally, I’d like to see it covered by a massive bell jar.

Ian, a design competition is a great idea! YouNxt, perhpas this is something you could spearheard. 🙂
Nooo! The PKiN is a landmark and one of the most beautiful buildings in Warsaw (after Warszawa Centralna, of course.)
Do you think that it’s the most iconic building in the city?
