On August 9, 2008 an anonymous person posted a video on YouTube called “Alligator Attack in ILLINOIS!” The two minute video showcases a Polish-American man, in a kayak with several pieces of raw of chicken. We soon find out the chicken is intended as a snack for an alligator lazily chilling at the shore of a swamp.
The man enthousiastically says, “I’m gonna give’em a chee-kan” as he steers the kayak with one hand and video tapes the action for his ‘szwagier’ (brother-in-law) with the other. Upon finally getting a good glimpse of the alligator the man proclaims that he’s a ‘forfiter’ (referring to the four-foot length of the reptile).
But when he finally throws the “chee-kan” into the water, the video takes a turn that will leave you howling. So without further ado, here’s Mr. Forfiter…
Since being posted, the video has gone viral and become an internet sensation. Soon after, various spoofs of the video started showing up; one of the best is this Jaws one:
There’s also a video called “Forfiter Blues”:
The Warsaw Zoo has named two of their alligators Forfiter and Franca and they are using the forfiter “brand” to raise money for the alligators’ sanctuary. There are now Forfiter parties, conferences, mix tapes and tributes. There was even a campaign to get Forfiter elected as the President of Poland .
This past Saturday, the popular Polish morning show ‘Dzien Dobry TVN’ put the call out asking for the author of the video to come forward as they would like to interview them.
All this has happened with the man behind the video remaining anonymous and possibly not even realizing that the video he shot, that one afternoon, in a swamp, has become one of the funniest and biggest sensations around.
