It’s almost here! We’ve been waiting patiently for this day for a while now. After having travelled to South America and all over Europe, we’re excited to let you know that our good friends and avid supporters of YouNxt, Agata Pilitowska and Maria Nowotarska will be performing their well-received play entitled “Bon soir, Monsieur Chopin” in Toronto this coming Sunday, October 17.
October 17 was chosen specially because this is the day of Chopin’s dramatic death.
Comprised of one act (1 hour and 20 minutes) the play is set in two locations, Zelazowa Wola (Chopin’s birthplace in Poland) and in Nohant, France.
What makes this performance very interesting and unlike anything we’ve ever seen before is that the main character, Frederic Chopin, never appears on stage. The audience only hears his voice (performed by the famous Polish actor Piotr Pilitowski) and his music.
As the story unfolds in Zelazowa Wola, the audience is introduced to a custodian as the Chopin Museum (played by Agata Pilitowska). She talks about the land of Chopin’s childhood and about his days of youth in Warsaw. The custodian then arrives in Nohant, France where she meets a French author (played by Maria Nowotarska) who has dedicated her heart and soul to the memory of Chopin. Through their dialogue along with illustrations, poetry and Chopin’s music the audience will get an intimate look into the complex, dramatic and yet creative life of Frederic Chopin.
We will definitely be at the performance on Sunday cheering Agata and Maria on. Join us at the Living Arts Center in Mississauga at 4pm for the performance and for drinks afterwards at Moxie’s (Square One).
Tickets (priced at $15 and $30) are available to be purchased online from the Living Arts Center box office.
