Hot Docs officially kicked off last night and with it, a ton of great documentaries. Congratulations to all the winners that won tickets through our contest – you know who you are.
The first two Polish films will premiere tomorrow night at the Cumberland Cinema in Toronto’s posh Yorkville neighbourhood. We’re organizing an informal drinks meet-up after the second film. Tickets for the films are still available so visit the Hot Docs website for more information.
Here’s the breakdown:
CHEMO – Sat. May 1, 7pm at Cumberland Cinemas (159 Cumberland St)
Dir. Pawel Lozinski / 58min / Polish with English subtitles
Chemotherapy patients at a Warsaw oncology clinic are shot in close-ups. Their pillow talk revealing lives still left to be lived: a wedding, the chance to see hair grow back, and the everyday minutiae that makes life worth fighting for.
* Dir. Marcin Janos Krawczyk’s short film Six Weeks will precede Chemo.
A MAN CAME AND TOOK HER – Sat. May 1 9:30pm Cumberland Cinemas
Dir. Jedrzej Niestroj, Rafal Przybyl / 80 min / Polish with English subtitles
When eight-year-old Ola goes missing, her rural community grows abuzz with gossip and rumours. Her grief-stricken mother remains convinced that her daughter is alive, placing more faith in fortune tellers than the police investigation.
Following A Man Came and Took Her, YouNxt and Ekran are organizing an informal drinks meet up. We will meet outside of the cinema after the film and proceed to Hemingways across the street.
Hope to see you there!
